We all wish we had a bit more money to spend on clothes and shoes, yet the more we start appreciating good quality and fashion the more commitments we have in our lives and the more difficult it is to go shopping regularly.

When I had just started working, I used to spend my paycheck on clothes and going out. Now I have to pay my car, a mortgage, student loan, savings for a rainy day (usually a one week holiday on a beach).

About a year ago I got invited to a ‘style swap’ party - intrigued and a little confused I decided to give it a go – and so glad I did. We all turned up at a friends house with a bag of clothes and accessories we no longer wanted and swapped our things around. It felt like a grownup sleep over – we all took turns trying on clothes and walked away with new things we love.

There are also some items of clothing you know you will never wear again but yet cannot seem to get rid of – once you see someone so happy when they try that piece on, you are more willing to give it away.  It's like giving away your puppy and knowing it has a safe home, just that it's not a puppy it’s a skirt!

Swapping Party Tips

Try and invite people that are roughly the same size otherwise people might feel left out.

Plan these parties between seasons that’s when people normally sort their clothes.

The left over clothes that no one wants should go to charity and not get binned.

Ask your guests to bring items that are in a good condition – no torn, discoloured or stained items allowed.
