Stella Recommends...Nowadays there’s no escaping, even what once started as a chilled night with the girls is going to end up as public property on Facebook or any other networking site. At the tender age of 26 (also known as 31 in real life), I still do not own a photo I like myself in. So I've been studying people's pictures (also known as Facebook stalking) trying to figure out where I am going wrong! It seems some people just manage to look great all the time so with a few tips from friends I bring to you a list of things to keep in mind before stepping in front of the camera. Take note of why you do not look good in pictures, is it your hair, your cheesy smile or maybe the fact that you always squint when the flash goes off? Keep in mind that you can be just being over critical of yourself in which case you need a different type of help.
Picture PerfectMake sure there is nothing stuck between your teeth, run your fingers through your hair making sure it's all in place. When you have been positioned, make sure you're not slouching whether sitting or standing and always look directly into the camera.Be ConfidentIf you are unhappy with yourself this will show through your photos, your smile will look static and put on. You need to feel an emotion to portrait it in your photo and if you are not feeling it think of something that makes you feel that way and your mood will change - don’t do things in half, commit fully to the emotion.Practice Makes PerfectFind some time to try out poses in the mirror, this way you will know exactly what suits you and what angles work best for you. This way you will be prepared for the next picture. You can get many tips by looking at celebrities on the red carpet, angling your body or looking over one shoulder is a common pose for many celebrities. Ask a friend and have a practice session. It’s fun and can also teach you a lot about yourself in photos . This can help you find a pose that works, make it your trademark.SmileFind a smile that works for you, either open mouthed or closed. Never smile with top and bottom teeth showing that definitely does not suit anyone. Practice a natural-looking smile; keep practising it whenever you pass the mirror, until it feels natural.Look TallerIf you are as tall as me, 5 foot nothing, this is probably the best tip I can give you. Get others to crouch down so you don't look like the shortest one of the group or alternatively take pictures seated.
Stand straight and tuck in your abs, take face shots from above to avoid getting a double chin, if taking a seated shot, tense your arms so they look toned and therefore thinner.
