After the wedding is over and the hot steamy honey moon is almost done, you will have to pause and think about the people who showed up to your wedding day.
Since moving to London I have noticed the British are snobbish when making the perfect cuppa is concerned. They take tea seriously so what should we know in order to make a cuppa like a pro.
People have their own way of making tea – should milk go in first? Should you use loose tea or a tea bag? Should you boil water in an electric kettle or on the stove? Should you make tea directly in a cup or in a tea pot? Should you wash your teapot or should you let the tea stains build up for a perfect blend?
A kettle is the best bet to boil water as it’s faster than anything else – even a microwave!
It is said that tea made in a teapot is brewed better; even if this had not been proven in any way. Tea pots are fun when sharing a cup of tea with friends, plus you can find them in all shapes and forms and they can be a great conversation piece.
If you do buy a proper tea pot it should come with an infusers, because that’s the way tea is meant to be made, some experts even claim to taste the ‘bag’ when teas are made with a bag. Some people choose to put the milk in first this has its disadvantages - as you might over 'milk' your tea, and its advantages – it’s at a good drinking temperature right away and you will not need to wash a teaspoon (unless you are adding sugar).
Finally the cup itself, I was looked down on for using a mug and not a tea cup – can you believe it! Now there I cannot compromise, I like my mug , the only thing I insist on is having a mug that’s white on the inside so I can see the real colour of my tea (or coffee), but thats just my personal preference.
Stella's Perfect Cuppa
How to make it Boil a fresh pot of water - let the water boil completely do not stop the kettle before (as water that is not boiling will not fully extract all the flavours of the tea) Place tea bag in a cup Pour boiling water into cup and let it brew for two minutes Squeeze & remove the tea bag Add milk and stir Sugar optional
There is no one way to make the perfect cuppa- the only person to decide how it’s made is you!
